The Wayfarer is a tunnelling ship owned and captained by Ashby Santoso. It is the main setting of the book The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. The ship is about thirty-five standards old, and has been extensively repaired and refitted.
Rosemary's first impression of the Wayfarer is that it is an ugly ship: sturdy, but blocky and angular, with a dome sticking out of its back and a patchwork hull. The Wayfarer was obviously built in space and meant for use in space, since it does not have the design elements to help it enter and exit an atmosphere.
Strapped to the belly of the ship is the interspatial bore, a massive metallic machine capable of punching into the sublayer of space.
